Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage emergency patients quickly and accurately to prioritize care
• Stabilize and provide high-quality nursing interventions for acute and emergent conditions
• Administer medications, manage IVs, and perform procedures within ED scope
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the care team to coordinate patient flow
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes clearly and promptly in the chart
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care in a compassionate way
• Participate in shift handoffs and support a safe, patient-centered environment in a small critical access hospital

Qualifications

• Current RN license — eligible to practice in Vermont (state or compact where applicable)
• 3–5 years of Emergency Department (ED) / Emergency Room (ER) nursing experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Comfort with fast-paced decision-making, triage, and trauma-informed care
• Ability to work every other weekend as part of the scheduled rotation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong triage and acute care assessment skills tailored to emergency settings
• Proficiency with IV therapy, medication administration, and ED procedures
• Familiarity with emergency documentation and electronic medical records
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary collaboration
• Ability to manage multiple patients, prioritize tasks, and remain calm under pressure
• Basic familiarity with critical access hospital workflows and resource-limited settings
