Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients' nutritional needs and develop individualized nutrition care plans
• Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy and monitor patient progress toward goals
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care
• Review menus and foodservice operations to ensure therapeutic diets are followed
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes clearly and timely in the medical record
• Deliver nutrition education to patients and staff, making complex concepts accessible
• Ensure compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards related to nutrition services
• Participate in orientation and training activities to support a smooth transition into the role

Qualifications

• Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential required
• Active California dietitian license or eligibility to obtain California licensure
• Experience in clinical nutrition or related settings; correctional healthcare experience is a plus
• Ability to work Monday–Friday, early morning day shift hours as listed
• Successful completion of background check and clearance to work in a correctional facility
• Strong documentation skills and comfort with electronic health record systems
• Professional, dependable, and patient-centered approach

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field from an ACEND-accredited program preferred
• Completion of supervised practice/internship required for RD/RDN credentialing

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical nutrition assessment and Medical Nutrition Therapy expertise
• Knowledge of therapeutic diets and menu planning in institutional settings
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations and care teams
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and documentation standards
• Competency with electronic medical records and basic data entry
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
