Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care for antepartum and high-risk labor & delivery patients
- Perform and interpret fetal monitoring using Intermediate AWHONN Fetal Monitoring standards
- Manage acute obstetrical interventions including magnesium sulfate and preterm labor protocols
- Document accurately and efficiently in Meditech and CPIN (primary documentation systems)
- Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiology, and neonatal teams to ensure safe patient outcomes
- Respond to obstetric emergencies and neonatal resuscitation (NRP) when required
- Educate patients and families on care plans, procedures and postpartum expectations
- Maintain unit standards including infection control, dress code and professional conduct
Qualifications
- Active TX RN License required (temporary license not accepted)
- Minimum 2+ years hospital experience — high-risk labor & delivery or antepartum required
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required
- Intermediate AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification required
- ACLS and RNC are preferred
- Experience with high-acuity obstetrical patients and management of magnesium sulfate and preterm labor
- Familiarity with Meditech and CPIN documentation systems preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- High-risk obstetrical care and labor & delivery expertise
- Antepartum care and fetal surveillance
- Intermediate fetal monitoring interpretation (AWHONN standards)
- Magnesium sulfate and preterm labor management
- Neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and emergency response
- Electronic documentation in Meditech and CPIN
- Ability to work in a 1:5 patient ratio in a busy unit
- Strong communication, triage and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
