Shift Type: Assignment-based schedule (see assignment calendar). Day shift, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (10-hour day), no call; specific assignment date blocks include Jan 6-29, Feb 3-25, Mar 3-4, Mar 9-18, Mar 23-29, Apr 7-12, Apr 20-26, May 4-13, May 18-27, Jun 1-7, Jun 15-21, Jun 29 ongoing. Days of week vary by assignment (day shift)

Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage neurosurgery and trauma ICU patients—care for brain, neck, and spine emergency surgery patients with confidence
- Perform and lead low-, moderate-, and high-risk procedures including intubation, G-tube placement, chest tube insertion, central/arterial line placement, paracentesis, cardioversion/defibrillation and more
- Provide critical care interventions and bedside procedures while collaborating closely with neurosurgeons and the multidisciplinary ICU team
- Triage and stabilize emergency surgery patients, making timely decisions that improve outcomes
- Document clinical care accurately and efficiently in Cerner Care (EMR)
- Participate in daily rounds, communicate clear plans of care, and support continuity across shifts
- Mentor and coordinate with support staff to ensure safe, high-quality patient throughput
Qualifications
- Certified Physician Assistant (PA) with neuro-trauma or neurocritical care experience
- Demonstrated experience managing Trauma ICU or neurosurgery ICU patients
- Comfortable performing advanced critical care procedures listed in the job core skills
- Current and unrestricted clinical privileges on active staff at a TJC-accredited facility are required (not locum-only privileges)
- Willingness and ability to complete credentialing application promptly (credentialing timeframe ~30-60 days; MSO requests application within 3 days of confirmation)
- Strong teamwork, communication skills, and ability to work in a high-acuity environment
Knowledge & Skills
- Trauma ICU management and neurotrauma care
- Advanced critical care procedures: endotracheal intubation, G-tube, chest tube, central and arterial lines, paracentesis, cardioversion/defibrillation
- Proficiency with Cerner Care EMR workflows
- Procedural skills including laceration repair, peripheral IV insertion, fracture/dislocation reduction, LMA placement
- Quick, decisive clinical judgment in emergency and post-op neurosurgical situations
- Ability to manage a high census (facility notes ~15-20 ICU patients per provider per day)
