Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care as an OR circulating and/or scrub nurse
• Prepare the operating room and ensure aseptic technique is maintained at all times
• Manage airway concerns and assist anesthesia colleagues as needed during procedures
• Collaborate with surgeons and interdisciplinary teams across specialties (Ortho, ENT, Ophthalmology, Plastics, Gyn, Podiatry)
• Operate and support advanced surgical systems such as Da Vinci Xi and orthopedic robotics when applicable
• Maintain accurate perioperative documentation, using Epic when required/preferred
• Float to other UCSF units and facilities as needed, bringing adaptable, high-quality care wherever assigned
• Act as an advocate for patient safety, comfort, and outcomes during the surgical experience

Qualifications

• Current CA RN license (required)
• AHA BLS and ACLS (required)
• PDRN (required)
• Minimum of 3 years of OR/perioperative nursing experience (required)
• Strong scrubbing and circulating experience, especially in orthopedic cases and joints
• Travel experience and willingness to float to other UCSF facilities (required)
• CNOR preferred; experience with Epic preferred
• COVID-19 vaccine and booster required per facility guidelines (medical/religious exemptions allowed)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in circulating and scrubbing across multiple surgical specialties
• Proficient in airway management and strict aseptic technique
• Experience with orthopedic procedures (total joint, fracture care, arthroscopy)
• Comfortable with ENT, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Endoscopy/Laparoscopic, Gynecology, Plastics, and Podiatry cases
• Familiarity with robotic-assisted surgery workflows (Da Vinci Xi) and orthopedic robotics
• Competent charting skills; Epic experience preferred
• Ability to adapt quickly and float across different OR environments and UCSF facilities
• Strong teamwork, communication, and situational awareness in high-acuity settings
