Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients throughout labor and delivery
- Continuously monitor fetal heart tracings and maternal status, escalating concerns promptly
- Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and neonatal teams for safe deliveries
- Perform neonatal resuscitation and initiate appropriate care in the immediate postpartum period
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the patient record
- Participate in unit-specific competency testing and maintain required certifications
- Educate patients and families about labor progress, delivery options, and postpartum care
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (ability to obtain Maryland licensure required for assignment)
- BLS required; PALS, ACLS, and NRP required as listed
- AWHONN or equivalent fetal heart monitoring certification required
- Successful completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Skills Checklist
- Current immunizations and screening as listed (eg, PPD/IGRA, MMR, Hep B, Varicella, COVID-19, flu)
- Ability to pass fit testing, color vision screening, physical/health statement, and drug screen
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
- BSN preferred where available
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of labor and delivery processes, maternal assessments, and intrapartum care
- Skilled in fetal heart monitoring interpretation and rapid clinical decision-making
- Proficient in neonatal resuscitation principles and immediate newborn care
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for high-stakes, multidisciplinary care
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
