Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients throughout labor and delivery
• Continuously monitor fetal heart tracings and maternal status, escalating concerns promptly
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and neonatal teams for safe deliveries
• Perform neonatal resuscitation and initiate appropriate care in the immediate postpartum period
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the patient record
• Participate in unit-specific competency testing and maintain required certifications
• Educate patients and families about labor progress, delivery options, and postpartum care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (ability to obtain Maryland licensure required for assignment)
• BLS required; PALS, ACLS, and NRP required as listed
• AWHONN or equivalent fetal heart monitoring certification required
• Successful completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Skills Checklist
• Current immunizations and screening as listed (eg, PPD/IGRA, MMR, Hep B, Varicella, COVID-19, flu)
• Ability to pass fit testing, color vision screening, physical/health statement, and drug screen

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of labor and delivery processes, maternal assessments, and intrapartum care
• Skilled in fetal heart monitoring interpretation and rapid clinical decision-making
• Proficient in neonatal resuscitation principles and immediate newborn care
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for high-stakes, multidisciplinary care
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
