Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to mothers and newborns across labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using continuous fetal monitoring and intervene appropriately
• Coach and support patients through labor, using therapeutic communication and hands-on assistance
• Assist providers during deliveries and ensure safe, smooth transitions to postpartum care
• Administer medications safely and document all interventions and patient responses
• Educate families on newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum expectations to empower confident transitions home
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and float between facilities as needed to maintain high-quality coverage

Qualifications

• Active RN license (valid in NY) with current license/certification verification
• Minimum 2+ years of Labor & Delivery experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications required
• C‑EFM and AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring certification required
• Completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
• Ability to meet personal health requirements (Fit test, MMR, Hep B, 2-step PPD or IGRA, Varicella, physical/health statement, COVID-19 vaccine, influenza vaccine, Trinity 10-panel drug screen)
• Comfort floating between Burdett Birth Center and St. Peter’s Hospital as part of the assignment

Knowledge & Skills

• Maternal and fetal monitoring and interpretation of fetal heart tracings
• Labor support techniques and patient coaching through all stages of labor
• Assisting with deliveries and immediate newborn stabilization
• Postpartum care for mother and newborn, including education and assessment
• Newborn care basics: initial assessment, thermoregulation, feeding support
• Medication administration, documentation, and safety practices
• Experience working within LDRP and Level-of-care models
• Strong communication, teamwork, and crisis management skills
