Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor respiratory status for patients across acuity levels — your interventions matter.
• Manage ventilators and advanced airway devices with precision and confidence.
• Deliver respiratory treatments and therapies, including aerosolized meds and airway clearance.
• Perform arterial blood gas collection and interpretation to guide care decisions.
• Respond to emergency situations (codes/rapid responses) as a skilled respiratory professional.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the interdisciplinary team to develop and follow patient-centered plans.
• Document treatments, assessments, and changes in condition clearly and promptly in the chart.
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and infection prevention initiatives.

Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license — Iowa state licensure verification required prior to start
• American Heart Association BLS (required)
• ACLS certification (required)
• Current fit test and required immunizations/screens as listed by facility (see job details)
• Ability to work nights, rotating weekends and participate in holiday rotation (including Christmas)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team

Education

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent (preferred)
• CRT or RRT credentialing preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in ventilator management and ventilator weaning protocols
• Knowledge of airway management, oxygen therapy and aerosolized medication delivery
• Ability to perform and interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Proficient with bedside monitoring equipment and alarm management
• Familiarity with infection control practices and respiratory-specific procedural checklists
• Comfortable documenting in electronic medical records and following facility policies
