Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, patient-centered medical-surgical nursing care with compassion and clinical accuracy
• Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and document patient responses in the medical record
• Perform comprehensive assessments and escalate changes in condition promptly
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary teammates to coordinate care plans
• Participate in Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and skills checklists to maintain practice standards
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans to support successful transitions
• Adhere to infection control policies, vaccine requirements, and workplace health screenings
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and ensure license/certificate verification is current

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse license in Iowa (or compact RN license where applicable)
• BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Successful completion of License/Certificate Verification and Trinity-specific competency assessments
• Ability to pass required health screenings (drug screen, fit test, immunizations, 2-step PPD or IGRA, etc.)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Previous medical-surgical experience preferred but motivated new-to-unit RNs who complete competency testing are welcome

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); diploma-educated RNs considered with current licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of medical-surgical nursing principles and best practices
• Proficiency with medication administration and patient monitoring
• Familiarity with electronic health record documentation
• Critical thinking and rapid clinical decision-making
• Good time management and prioritization across multiple patients
• Effective patient and family education skills
• Comfort working with standardized competency testing and skills validation processes
