Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, focusing on dignity and respect
- Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report concerns to nursing staff
- Foster a warm, engaging environment by encouraging participation in social and therapeutic activities
- Document care accurately and clearly to maintain continuity and quality of care
- Collaborate with the care team to implement individualized care plans and improve outcomes
- Support safe transfer and ambulation techniques to minimize falls and promote independence
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification or equivalent (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience in long-term care, assisted living, or geriatric settings is a strong plus
- Compassionate bedside manner and strong communication skills with residents and families
- Ability to follow care plans, document accurately, and work effectively in a team
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Comfortable assisting with ADLs and safe patient handling techniques
- Ability to observe, recognize, and report changes in resident status
- Good documentation habits and basic charting skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage residents and collaborate with the care team
