Roles & Responsibilities

• Execute routine and specialized histologic procedures on fresh and fixed tissue with precision
• Process specimens, embed, microtome, and perform staining while maintaining quality control
• Handle fresh tissue promptly and properly to preserve diagnostic integrity
• Maintain accurate logs, records, and labeling to support pathology review
• Operate and maintain histology equipment and troubleshoot minor issues
• Collaborate with pathologists and lab staff to prioritize cases and resolve concerns
• Follow laboratory safety, infection control, and regulatory protocols consistently
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and share practical insights from the bench

Qualifications

• ASCP certification as HT (HT (ASCP)) required
• Proven experience performing varied histology procedures on fresh and fixed tissue
• Experience working in a large Level I facility is preferred and highly valued
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced lab environment
• Demonstrated ability to follow protocols and maintain accurate documentation

Education

• Completion of an accredited Histotechnology program or equivalent training
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Tissue processing and specimen handling best practices
• Embedding, microtomy, and routine/special stains
• Quality control and troubleshooting for histology workflows
• Laboratory safety, documentation, and chain-of-custody procedures
• Clear communication with clinical teams and pathologists
• Time management and prioritization under caseload pressure
