Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality inpatient and outpatient plastic surgery care at MercyOne Des Moines and MercyOne West Des Moines
• Perform reconstructive and cosmetic procedures in the operating room and office setting
• Respond to trauma and emergency department consults and provide EMTALA coverage as needed
• Conduct thorough in-office consultations and procedures with empathetic patient communication
• Collaborate closely with breast surgeons, nursing staff, and ancillary teams for coordinated care
• Participate in the on-call rotation and ensure timely patient triage and management
• Engage in teaching and mentorship opportunities to support learners and advance team skills

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completion of an accredited Plastic Surgery residency
• Board certified or board eligible in Plastic Surgery
• Ability to obtain an active Iowa medical license prior to start
• Current BLS (required) and ACLS (preferred) certifications
• Experience managing inpatient responsibilities and operating room procedures
• Comfort with trauma call, ER consults, and high-volume clinic settings
• Proficiency with Epic EMR or ability to learn quickly

Education

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO); completion of Plastic Surgery residency

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong surgical judgment and technical operative skills in reconstructive and cosmetic procedures
• Experience with trauma call and emergency consult workflows
• Clinic management skills to handle high daily volumes and short appointment slots
• Effective patient communication and counseling across all age groups
• Collaboration skills for multidisciplinary care with surgery and ancillary teams
• Familiarity with Epic EMR for documentation and ordering
