Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform chest tube insertions safely and efficiently to support postoperative care
• Serve as OR first assist during cardiovascular surgeries, contributing directly to positive surgical outcomes
• Retrieve vascular tissues for use as bypass conduits with meticulous attention to technique
• Provide ICU and floor coverage as needed, delivering high-quality adult patient care
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic to ensure continuity of care
• Collaborate closely with the supervising physician (Dr. Charles Lutz) and multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Active Physician Assistant license valid in New York (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Current national certification as a PA (e.g., NCCPA) preferred
• Demonstrated experience in cardiovascular surgery and OR first assist duties
• Proven ability to perform chest tube insertions and vascular tissue retrieval
• Comfortable providing adult ICU and post-op floor care
• Basic life support (BLS) and advanced certifications as required by facility

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program; PA-C preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in cardiovascular surgery workflows and intraoperative assistance
• Proficient with Epic for documentation and order entry
• Strong procedural skills: chest tubes, vascular tissue handling, first assist techniques
• Ability to manage adult ICU patients and escalate appropriately
• Clear communication, teamwork, and ability to work under variable call demands
• Attention to detail for safe perioperative and post-operative management
