Roles & Responsibilities
- Review prior authorization and appeals requests to determine approval or denial based on medical necessity
- Perform peer-to-peer calls to support utilization management and ensure clear clinical communication
- Provide clinical oversight for utilization management, disease management, and quality management activities
- Participate in the development and revision of evidence-based medical policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines
- Analyze provider and performance data, participate in credentialing reviews, and support provider quality interventions
- Coordinate with Pharmacy leadership to align medical and pharmacy benefits and improve member care
- Support oversight of clinical aspects of fraud, waste, and abuse programs as assigned
- Represent PCHP in clinical activities with state and local bodies and serve on managed care committees
- Lead process improvement efforts to enhance clinical workflows, productivity, and member outcomes
- Select, train, supervise, and mentor clinical staff to build a high-performing team
Qualifications
- MD or DO with board certification in OB/GYN (current and not lapsed)
- Active, unrestricted Texas medical license (or ability to obtain quickly)
- Clean malpractice history and valid professional licensure required
- Experience in managed care, utilization management, prior authorization, or medical leadership
- Comfortable performing peer-to-peer reviews and communicating with providers and executive leadership
- Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience and strong interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of Texas Medicaid regulations and managed care principles
- U.S. work authorization required — position is not open to visa sponsorship and not open to 1099 arrangements
- Willingness to start the locum assignment on the specified start date and consider transition to permanent role
Education
- MD or DO (required)
- Board certification in OB/GYN (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of managed care principles and utilization management
- Familiarity with Texas Medicaid regulations and state payer interactions
- Experience with medical policy development, clinical standards, and evidence-based medicine
- Knowledge of pharmacy benefit management and the role of behavioral health in care coordination
- Data analysis skills for provider profiling and performance assessment
- Strong negotiation, communication, and peer-to-peer conversation skills
- Computer literacy and comfort with clinical/administrative systems
- Leadership, supervisory skills, and the ability to manage confidential information
