Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist licensed physical therapists in delivering individualized patient care plans and therapeutic exercises
- Provide hands-on treatment, gait training, transfers, and mobility support to maximize patient independence
- Document patient progress accurately and communicate updates to the interdisciplinary team
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and safety strategies to support recovery
- Operate and maintain therapeutic equipment and ensure a safe treatment environment
- Collaborate with therapists, nurses, and caregivers to coordinate effective, patient-centered care
Qualifications
- Current Physical Therapist Assistant license in Massachusetts, or ability to obtain state licensure prior to start
- Graduation from an accredited PTA program required
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required or obtained upon hire
- Previous PTA experience in inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, or skilled nursing preferred
- Strong communication skills, sound clinical judgment, and a passion for helping patients regain function
Education
- Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Completion of required clinicals and graduation from PTA program
Knowledge & Skills
- Therapeutic exercise techniques and mobility training
- Gait training, transfers, and safe patient handling
- Clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic medical records
- Basic knowledge of modalities commonly used in rehab settings
- Time management, teamwork, and patient-centered communication
- Infection control practices and equipment maintenance
