Shift Type: Rotating day and night with on-call: Primary day shift Monday-Friday, 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM (every other week); Day shifts may also be scheduled as 8-hour, 10-hour or 12-hour blocks with typical starts as early as 7:00 AM; Weeknight on-call (1 night/week): 7:30 PM - 7:00 AM; Weekend coverage: Saturday-Sunday, 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM (24-hour coverage) 1x per month. Rotating shifts including call and occasional forced-call rotation.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care to surgical patients across specialties (orthopedics, urology, GYN, neuro, vascular, general surgery, ENT, pediatrics)
• Coordinate and prepare the operating room environment using Cerner Surginet for accurate charting and case flow
• Assist with and scrub for robotic (DaVinci) and open/ laparoscopic cases when required
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure instrument and supply readiness for efficient procedures
• Respond to on-call notifications within the required 30-minute window to support emergent staffing needs
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, CSTs and charge nurse/house supervisor to ensure excellent patient outcomes
• Float to Mercy Downtown when needed and adapt to changes in unit workflow during construction or high volume

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in California (or compact RN eligible and able to obtain CA licensure prior to start)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
• Minimum 3 years of OR experience in an acute care setting (surgery center experience alone does not meet requirement)
• Hands-on experience with common surgical case types listed (ortho, urology, GYN, neuro, vascular, general surgery, ENT) and robotics experience required
• Comfortable using Cerner Surginet (Cerner required)
• Ability to live/stay within a 30-minute radius of the facility due to call requirements
• Willingness to participate in on-call and weekend rotations, and to float as needed

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing and OR workflow expertise
• Proficiency with Cerner Surginet EMR/charting
• Experience with robotic surgery platforms (DaVinci) and scrub/ circulating roles
• Strong sterile technique and instrument knowledge
• Ability to manage multiple cases per day in high-volume OR suites
• Effective communication, teamwork, and ability to collaborate across disciplines
• Adaptability in high-noise/construction environments and during schedule changes
