Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care to ICU, PCU and MST patients, managing acuity across a combined care unit
• Monitor telemetry and interpret 12-lead EKGs at the bedside to detect dysrhythmias promptly
• Safely titrate drips (sedation, vasopressors, insulin) and manage set-rate infusions per protocol
• Manage ventilator/BiPAP/CPAP support in collaboration with Respiratory Therapy
• Deliver primary nursing care when needed, including medication administration, assessments, and documentation in Cerner
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including charge RNs, monitor techs, and house supervisors to coordinate patient care
• Float to other units as needed to maintain competency and support staffing (two-hour notice for some floats)
• Participate in unit and hospital orientation and contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Active RN license (Arizona or compact RN eligible) in good standing
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (or 1 year ICU + 1 year PCU/MedSurg in larger facilities)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required prior to assignment
• Ability to pass the dysrhythmia exam with an 80% score within two attempts (required before contract signing)
• Experience titrating drips and managing ventilator/BiPAP/CPAP patients
• Familiarity with Cerner charting system preferred
• Willingness to float, work standby rotations, and participate in holiday scheduling
• Must meet CommonSpirit radius/employment restrictions (no full-time/part-time/PRN at CommonSpirit facilities within past year and within the 50-mile rule)

Education

• Associate degree or diploma in Nursing (ADN or diploma acceptable); BSN not required
• Completion of hospital/unit orientation and competency-based MCU orientation

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and bedside cardiac monitoring
• 12-lead EKG acquisition and interpretation basics
• Dysrhythmia recognition and dysrhythmia exam preparedness
• Drip titration and IV infusion management
• Ventilator/BiPAP/CPAP management and collaboration with RT
• Care across acuity levels: ICU, PCU, MST (multi-care unit)
• Familiarity with remote monitor/monitor tech workflows
• Ability to function as charge/resource nurse when required
