Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality MedSurg patient care with a focus on safety, dignity, and positive outcomes
• Manage post-operative recovery responsibilities and monitor patients closely after procedures
• Perform thorough assessments, document care in EPIC, and communicate changes to the interdisciplinary team
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies following hospital policies and best practices
• Support oncology med/surg overflow patients when needed, applying appropriate clinical judgment
• Collaborate with colleagues and float to other units within scope to meet patient needs
• Maintain 1:5 patient ratio standards and prioritize care effectively during busy shifts
• Participate in unit orientation and pass the required open-book orientation exam to demonstrate competency

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license appropriate for practice in Nebraska (license to submit required)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (MedSurg experience preferred; first-time travelers are welcome)
• BLS certification required
• Driver's license required at submittal to verify distance from facility (50-mile radius rule applies)
• Comfortable with EPIC charting and electronic health record workflows
• Willingness to float within scope and care for post-op recovery patients
• Ability to pass an orientation open-book exam with a 90% score (required)
• Charge nurse experience of at least 1 year is preferred for charge roles

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong MedSurg clinical assessment and prioritization skills
• Experience with post-op recovery and MedSurg patient populations
• Proficient charting and documentation in EPIC
• Familiarity with oxygen delivery methods including nasal cannula
• Comfort managing oncology med/surg overflow cases
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and patient advocacy skills
• Ability to work nights and maintain attention to detail during busy shifts
