Roles & Responsibilities
- Design and lead meaningful therapeutic recreation activities tailored to individuals in the Enhanced Outpatient Program (EOP)
- Assess client strengths, interests, and needs to build person-centered activity plans that support mental health recovery
- Collaborate with mental health clinicians, case managers, and correctional staff to coordinate care and safety
- Document participation, progress, and outcomes in a clear and timely manner to support treatment goals
- Monitor the therapeutic environment and adapt activities to ensure safety, dignity, and engagement
- Provide strength-based group facilitation that fosters social skills, coping strategies, and community reintegration readiness
- Contribute to program development and special projects aimed at improving patient outcomes and program quality
Qualifications
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred or equivalent credential in therapeutic recreation
- Experience working in mental health settings, recreational therapy programs, or Enhanced Outpatient Programs is highly valued
- Strong group facilitation experience and comfort leading structured activities for adults
- Ability to pass required facility background checks and comply with institutional policies
- Excellent communication skills and proven experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Psychology, or related field preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of recreational therapy principles, modalities, and documentation best practices
- Experience applying therapeutic activities to support mental health recovery and functional goals
- Skilled in group process, behavior management techniques, and crisis de-escalation strategies
- Comfortable working in structured correctional facility environments with attention to safety and protocol
- Proficient record-keeping and outcome measurement to demonstrate program effectiveness
