Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for incoming inmates at reception
• Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including psychopharmacologic care
• Provide crisis intervention, risk assessment, and timely clinical decision-making
• Collaborate with nursing, mental health clinicians, custody staff, and care managers to ensure safe transitions
• Document clinical encounters clearly and thoroughly in the medical record
• Participate in orientation and training activities to support team continuity and quality of care

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree with completion of an accredited psychiatry residency
• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry
• Licensed to practice medicine in California or eligible to obtain California medical license
• Experience or interest in forensic/correctional psychiatry preferred
• Current basic life support (BLS) certification; DEA registration or ability to obtain if required

Education

• MD or DO; completion of psychiatry residency required
• Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong psychopharmacology knowledge and evidence-based treatment planning
• Risk assessment and crisis management in high-acuity settings
• Experience with intake and reception evaluations
• Excellent clinical documentation and time-management skills
• Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Cultural competency and ability to work respectfully with diverse populations
