Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate direct patient care on the medical unit
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and document responses
- Assess patients, identify changes in condition, and escalate concerns to the care team
- Maintain clear, timely electronic documentation and handoffs
- Collaborate with nursing and multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care
- Follow facility safety and security protocols specific to correctional healthcare
- Educate patients on treatments and self-care as appropriate
Qualifications
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- Correctional nursing experience preferred but not required
- Preferred: 1+ year of medical or med-surg nursing experience
- Ability to pass required background checks and facility clearance
- Available to work the posted schedule including weekends
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and clinical judgment skills
- Medication administration and IV experience
- Proficient with electronic medical record documentation
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Comfortable working in a secure correctional healthcare environment
- Good time management and ability to prioritize in a busy unit
