Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with psychiatric needs during the 1:45 PM - 10:15 PM shift
• Observe, monitor, and document patient behavior and clinical status accurately and timely
• Assist with daily living activities and therapeutic group participation to support treatment goals
• Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
• Communicate clearly and professionally with interdisciplinary team members and document patient interactions
• Support intake, orientation, and transition activities for patients as directed by clinical staff
• Adhere to facility policies and correctional protocols to ensure safety and regulatory compliance

Qualifications

• Valid Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential — required
• Ability to work the assigned schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 1:45 PM - 10:15 PM
• Willingness and ability to complete a two-week orientation at the start of the assignment
• Ability to pass facility background checks and any required clearances for KVSP - Kern Valley State Prison
• Correctional healthcare experience is a strong plus but not required

Education

• Completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician program or equivalent training
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong observational and documentation skills for behavioral health settings
• De-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques
• Basic knowledge of psychiatric conditions and therapeutic approaches
• Effective communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary setting
• Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain composure in challenging situations
