Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with psychiatric needs during the 1:45 PM - 10:15 PM shift
- Observe, monitor, and document patient behavior and clinical status accurately and timely
- Assist with daily living activities and therapeutic group participation to support treatment goals
- Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
- Communicate clearly and professionally with interdisciplinary team members and document patient interactions
- Support intake, orientation, and transition activities for patients as directed by clinical staff
- Adhere to facility policies and correctional protocols to ensure safety and regulatory compliance
Qualifications
- Valid Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential — required
- Ability to work the assigned schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 1:45 PM - 10:15 PM
- Willingness and ability to complete a two-week orientation at the start of the assignment
- Ability to pass facility background checks and any required clearances for KVSP - Kern Valley State Prison
- Correctional healthcare experience is a strong plus but not required
Education
- Completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician program or equivalent training
- High school diploma or GED required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong observational and documentation skills for behavioral health settings
- De-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques
- Basic knowledge of psychiatric conditions and therapeutic approaches
- Effective communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary setting
- Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain composure in challenging situations
