Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, attentive psychiatric care and observation to patients in a correctional setting
- Implement care plans and therapeutic activities as directed by the interdisciplinary team
- Monitor, document, and report behavioral changes, incidents, and interventions accurately
- Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain safety for patients and staff
- Assist with daily living activities and medication administration support per facility protocols
- Collaborate with nurses, mental health clinicians, and security staff to coordinate patient care
- Participate in required trainings and maintain compliance with facility and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Active California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) required
- Current BLS/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience in psychiatric, behavioral health, or correctional healthcare settings is a plus
- Ability to pass background checks and meet correctional facility clearance requirements
- Strong communication skills and a calm, professional approach in high-stress situations
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential in California
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of psychiatric behavioral health principles and crisis intervention
- Skilled in patient observation, documentation, and charting
- Familiarity with safety protocols and ability to follow security procedures
- Good interpersonal skills for working with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to apply de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication
