Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, direct patient care to individuals with psychiatric needs
- Monitor and document patient behavior, symptoms, and responses to interventions
- Implement individualized care and behavior plans under supervision
- Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain a safe environment
- Collaborate with nurses, mental health clinicians, and correctional staff to coordinate care
- Maintain accurate, timely records and communicate changes in condition clearly
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential required — new licensees welcome
- Comfort working in a correctional/secure facility environment
- Willingness to complete the two-week training period and follow facility protocols
- Strong observational and communication skills; ability to document clearly
- Dependable, professional, and team-oriented mindset
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) — required
Knowledge & Skills
- Foundational knowledge of psychiatric conditions and basic therapeutic techniques
- Skill in crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation
- Competence with observational reporting and accurate charting
- Ability to follow behavior plans and safety protocols consistently
- Good interpersonal skills to support patients and collaborate with the care team
