Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and evidence-based treatment plans for patients in a correctional mental health setting
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications safely while monitoring for side effects and effectiveness
• Collaborate with mental health professionals, custody staff, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
• Perform risk assessments, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention evaluations as needed
• Document clinical encounters clearly and timely to support continuity of care and compliance
• Participate in case reviews, treatment team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree with completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency
• Active and unrestricted California medical license required prior to start
• Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry preferred
• DEA registration (or ability to obtain) required for prescribing controlled substances
• Experience or demonstrated competence in mental health care; correctional psychiatry experience is a strong plus
• Ability to pass background checks and facility-specific credentialing requirements
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification or willingness to obtain

Education

• MD or DO, Psychiatry residency completed

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in psychopharmacology and medication management
• Strong diagnostic skills across the spectrum of adult mental health conditions
• Comfortable working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with risk assessment, crisis management, and suicide prevention protocols
• Clear and concise clinical documentation and effective communication skills
