Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, professional psychiatric care and observation to patients in a secure mental health program
• Implement and follow individualized treatment plans and report changes in patient status
• Use de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention to maintain a safe environment
• Document patient interactions, behaviors, and treatment outcomes accurately and timely
• Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, nurses, counselors, and custody staff to coordinate care
• Facilitate therapeutic group activities and support daily living tasks as appropriate

Qualifications

• Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential required
• Comfort working in a correctional/secure mental health setting (facility: Salinas Valley State Prison Psychiatric Program)
• Willingness to complete the two-week training period as part of onboarding
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work the scheduled Fri–Tue rotation, including weekends

Education

• Completion of an approved LPT training program and active LPT license (as required for practice)

• Patient observation, assessment, and clear documentation
• Behavioral health best practices and therapeutic support
• Team collaboration with clinical and custodial staff
• Time management and adaptability in a structured environment

This is a contract/registry assignment based in the Salinas Valley area. When you’re off-duty, explore nearby Pinnacles National Park for hiking and scenic rock formations, enjoy coastal drives to Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea (Monterey Bay Aquarium and beautiful beaches), sample local produce and winery experiences in Salinas Valley, or take a weekend trip down the scenic Pacific Coast Highway toward Big Sur.
