Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and risk evaluations for patients in a correctional setting
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based interventions
- Provide individual and group therapy focused on mental health, trauma, and behavioral management
- Collaborate with custody, nursing, and allied mental health professionals to coordinate care
- Document clinical encounters thoroughly and maintain timely, compliant records
- Respond to crises and provide therapeutic de-escalation as needed within facility protocols
- Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings and treatment planning to improve patient outcomes
- Support continuity of care and facilitate appropriate referrals and discharge planning
Qualifications
- Licensed Psychologist OR licensed LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC (PSYL needed; LMFT/LCSW/LPCC will be accepted)
- Active professional license in your discipline (or eligibility to obtain one)
- Experience providing clinical services in mental health settings; correctional experience is a strong plus
- Comfort working within a secure correctional facility and passing required background checks
- Strong clinical documentation skills and knowledge of evidence-based therapies
- Good communication and teamwork skills for working with interdisciplinary teams
Education
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage & Family Therapy (required for LMFT/LCSW/LPCC)
- Doctoral degree in Psychology (required if practicing as a licensed Psychologist)
Knowledge & Skills
- Assessment and diagnostic skills for adult mental health populations
- Proven ability to deliver individual and group psychotherapy
- Familiarity with behavioral interventions, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques
- Solid clinical documentation and treatment planning abilities
- Ability to collaborate with custody and clinical staff in a secure environment
- Understanding of ethical and legal issues in correctional mental health care
