Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality psychological assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment for psychiatric patients
- Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor patient progress to ensure meaningful outcomes
- Deliver individual and group therapy tailored to the needs of a forensic/psychiatric population
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses and correctional staff as part of an integrated care team
- Document clinical encounters clearly and timely in the patient record to support continuity of care
- Participate in case reviews, treatment team meetings and quality improvement activities
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) preferred
- Licensed Psychologist in California or ability to obtain state licensure promptly
- Experience working in mental health, forensic psychiatry or correctional settings preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills, including competency with psychometric instruments
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary teamwork skills
- Current CPR/first aid and any facility-required clearances and background checks
Education
- Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) preferred; master's-level clinicians with appropriate credentials may be considered depending on facility requirements
Knowledge & Skills
- Assessment and diagnostic formulation for serious mental illness and comorbid conditions
- Evidence-based psychotherapies (CBT, DBT skills, trauma-informed approaches)
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques appropriate for psychiatric settings
- Treatment planning, progress monitoring and outcome-focused documentation
- Comfort working within correctional or secure psychiatric environments and collaborating with custody staff
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and clear clinical writing
