Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and diagnostic evaluations for patients in the psychiatric program
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that are evidence-based and patient-centered
- Provide individual and group therapy, focusing on mental health stabilization and skill-building
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nursing and program staff to coordinate care
- Perform risk assessments and crisis intervention when necessary to ensure patient and facility safety
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and contribute to treatment planning
- Participate in case consultations, staff training, and program development to improve patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) preferred and valid California psychologist license strongly preferred or license-eligible
- Experience working in psychiatric or correctional mental health settings is highly desirable
- Proven experience conducting assessments, therapy, and crisis intervention
- Strong clinical documentation skills and comfort with electronic health records
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and adapt to facility policies
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain if required by facility
Education
- Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD)
Knowledge & Skills
- Thorough knowledge of DSM diagnostic criteria and evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches
- Skilled in psychological assessment tools and structured clinical interviewing
- Crisis management and de-escalation techniques for psychiatric populations
- Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills
- Competence in risk assessment, safety planning, and medication coordination with prescribers
- Ability to work within facility protocols while advocating for patient-centered care
