Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health and substance abuse assessments to inform individualized care
- Provide evidence-based individual and group therapy to adults in a correctional treatment setting
- Collaborate with treatment teams to develop and implement effective treatment plans
- Deliver crisis intervention and stabilization when needed, prioritizing safety and clinical judgment
- Maintain clear, timely documentation and charting to support continuity of care
- Participate in case conferences and professional development to enhance patient outcomes
- Advocate for patient needs while working within facility policies and community resources
Qualifications
- Active and valid California license: Psychologist (PSY) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
- Experience providing mental health and substance abuse treatment, ideally in institutional or forensic settings
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills with demonstrated therapy experience
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Current CPR/first aid and any facility-required trainings (per employer policy)
Education
- Doctoral degree (PhD/PsyD) in Psychology preferred for Psychologist roles; or
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related field required for LMFT/LPCC
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
- Familiarity with evidence-based modalities such as CBT, motivational interviewing, and group therapy
- Comfortable working within a structured correctional treatment environment
- Strong documentation and clinical record-keeping skills
- Cultural competence and trauma-informed care approach
- Ability to manage crisis situations and de-escalate when necessary
