Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide efficient chairside assistance to dentists during exams, procedures, and treatments
• Prepare operatories and instruments to ensure smooth, timely patient flow
• Take and process dental radiographs within your scope of practice
• Maintain strict infection control and sterilization protocols for patient safety
• Accurately record patient information and treatment details in the chart
• Educate patients on post-op care and preventive oral health in clear, compassionate language
• Collaborate with the dental team and facility staff to coordinate patient schedules and resources
• Follow facility-specific protocols to ensure a safe, secure clinical environment

Qualifications

• Active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification/class (RDA)
• Proven experience as a dental assistant or completion of an accredited dental assisting program
• Comfortable working in a correctional facility setting (assignment at Centinela State Prison)
• Ability to attend and complete a two-week orientation prior to independent assignment
• Strong communication skills and professional bedside manner

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred
• Active RDA registration required

Knowledge & Skills

• Chairside assisting and familiarity with common dental instruments and procedures
• Knowledge of infection control, sterilization, and OSHA/CDC guidelines
• Basic radiography skills as allowed by your licensure and state regulations
• Patient charting and accurate documentation practices
• Time management and ability to keep a steady pace in a busy clinic
• Teamwork mindset and the ability to follow established protocols
