Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide efficient chairside assistance to dentists during exams, procedures, and treatments
- Prepare operatories and instruments to ensure smooth, timely patient flow
- Take and process dental radiographs within your scope of practice
- Maintain strict infection control and sterilization protocols for patient safety
- Accurately record patient information and treatment details in the chart
- Educate patients on post-op care and preventive oral health in clear, compassionate language
- Collaborate with the dental team and facility staff to coordinate patient schedules and resources
- Follow facility-specific protocols to ensure a safe, secure clinical environment
Qualifications
- Active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification/class (RDA)
- Proven experience as a dental assistant or completion of an accredited dental assisting program
- Comfortable working in a correctional facility setting (assignment at Centinela State Prison)
- Ability to attend and complete a two-week orientation prior to independent assignment
- Strong communication skills and professional bedside manner
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred
- Active RDA registration required
Knowledge & Skills
- Chairside assisting and familiarity with common dental instruments and procedures
- Knowledge of infection control, sterilization, and OSHA/CDC guidelines
- Basic radiography skills as allowed by your licensure and state regulations
- Patient charting and accurate documentation practices
- Time management and ability to keep a steady pace in a busy clinic
- Teamwork mindset and the ability to follow established protocols
