Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered psychiatric care during assigned shifts
- Observe and document patient behavior, responses, and changes in condition accurately
- Participate in de-escalation and crisis intervention to maintain a safe environment
- Assist with therapeutic activities and daily living tasks to support patient progress
- Communicate clearly with nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care
- Follow facility safety and security protocols specific to a correctional healthcare setting
- Complete timely and thorough charting and shift handoffs to ensure continuity of care
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license in California
- Completion of a state-approved Psychiatric Technician program or equivalent
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required per facility
- Experience in psychiatric, behavioral health, or correctional healthcare settings is a plus
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and facility-required clearances
- Reliable attendance and ability to confirm/cancel per diem shifts daily as required
Education
- Completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician program; high school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong observation and patient assessment skills
- Behavioral de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
- Solid documentation and charting abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication with patients and staff
- Familiarity with correctional facility protocols and safety practices
- Teamwork and the ability to follow clinical direction under supervision
