Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients using a comprehensive nursing process and develop individualized plans of care
• Administer medications and treatments safely and in line with state practice acts and facility policies
• Document patient encounters and care activities accurately and promptly to meet standards of care
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient-focused care
• Implement, evaluate, and adjust interventions to optimize patient outcomes
• Participate in department performance improvement, shared governance, and evidence-based practice initiatives
• Provide patient and family education to support recovery and long-term health management
• Mentor and precept new staff and students, sharing clinical expertise and fostering professional growth
• Use critical thinking to identify safety concerns and escalate appropriately to protect patients

Qualifications

• Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in Illinois (active, unrestricted license required)
• ADN required upon hire; BSN preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
• Approved CPR/BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Experience in Endoscopy / Gastroenterology or similar procedural areas strongly preferred
• Demonstrated ability with medication administration, patient assessment, and clinical documentation
• Comfort working in a fast-paced hospital/endoscopy lab environment and participating in on-call rotations

Education

• ADN required (Associate Degree in Nursing)
• BSN preferred (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in patient assessment, care planning, intervention, and evaluation
• Strong medication administration skills and adherence to safety protocols
• Skilled in accurate, standards-based documentation and use of electronic health records
• Experience with endoscopy/gastroenterology procedures and peri-procedural nursing care
• Able to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to performance improvement efforts
• Good critical thinking, prioritization, and escalation skills for patient safety
• Patient and family education techniques and a focus on patient experience
• Mentoring and precepting skills to support new staff development
