Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert stepdown nursing care for patients requiring intermediate critical care monitoring
• Manage tracheostomies and ventilators safely and confidently
• Assess, monitor, and document patient status and response to treatment
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust patient care plans
• Perform timely interventions and escalate concerns to ensure patient safety
• Complete required competency exams and skills checklists to maintain high-quality practice
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, licensing, and required screenings

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (state verification required prior to start)
• BLS and ACLS required; PALS and NRP as applicable or preferred
• Demonstrated experience with tracheostomy care and ventilator management in a stepdown or ICU setting
• Negative TB test and required vaccine documentation (MMR, Varicella) or signed declination
• Drug screen and background check completed as required
• Fit test, Hepatitis B, influenza vaccine, Tdap, and COVID-19 vaccine per facility policy
• Weekend and night shift availability; ability to commit to requested short-term blocks

Knowledge & Skills

• Ventilator management and troubleshooting
• Tracheostomy care and suctioning skills
• Cardiac and respiratory monitoring in a stepdown setting
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking
• Accurate electronic documentation and handoff communication
• Infection control principles and PPE/fit-test familiarity
• Comfort with fast-paced environments and working independently on per diem shifts
