Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts, primarily Nights: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (may float to Days: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM); every other weekend; holidays as needed. Guaranteed 36 hours per week. Night-focused assignment with occasional day float to medical/telemetry.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert postoperative care and promote early ambulation to speed recovery
- Monitor patients closely, recognizing and escalating any changes in condition
- Manage wound drains (Hemovac, JP) and support colostomy care with compassion and skill
- Administer and manage PCA pumps, incidental heparin drips and TPN per unit protocols
- Float to medical and telemetry areas as needed and collaborate with monitor techs
- Deliver clear bedside shift reports to ensure safe, seamless patient handoffs
- Support orthopedic and spinal surgery patients through total joint and spinal post-op care
- Work alongside RT and tech staff to troubleshoot respiratory needs and coordinate care
- Teach patients and families about post-op care, wound/drain management and discharge plans
Qualifications
- Active RN license (eligible to work in North Dakota) required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (MedSurg or surgical/post-op experience preferred)
- Comfortable with EPIC charting system (unit uses EPIC)
- Able and willing to float to medical and telemetry units
- Comfortable caring for bariatric patients and those with colostomies or drains
- OK with first-time travel nurses; open-minded and team-oriented approach welcomed
- Able to meet upfront scheduling expectations (RTO requirement: 7 or fewer days off per 13-week contract)
Education
- Active RN license in good standing
- BLS certification required
- BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Postoperative nursing care and early ambulation facilitation
- Familiarity with EPIC charting and electronic documentation workflows
- Experience with PCA pumps, TPN management and occasional heparin drips
- Wound and drain care including Hemovac and JP drains
- Telemetry awareness and ability to work with remote tele/monitor techs
- Colostomy care and bariatric patient handling
- Strong bedside assessment, patient monitoring and escalation skills
- Effective bedside shift reporting and interdisciplinary communication
