Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients thoroughly and deliver high-quality med-surg nursing care with compassion
• Manage complex wound care, tracheostomy and ostomy care to support healing and comfort
• Care for patients with chest tubes, drains, and post-op needs including wound VACs
• Administer and monitor IV therapies and drips (including Heparin) and operate Alaris IV pumps
• Support patients on PCA pumps and those who may require dialysis or PD Cyclers
• Perform bedside shift report and safety checks every 1–2 hours to maintain patient safety
• Document accurately in Meditech and follow 100% medication barcode scanning policy
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and float as needed to support unit flow

Qualifications

• Current RN license in good standing for practice in Tennessee (or compact RN where applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med-Surg nursing experience
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Comfortable and experienced with wound care, trach/ostomy, chest tube management and drains
• Familiarity with Meditech documentation system
• Experience with Alaris IV pumps, PCA pumps and dialysis care is highly desirable
• Ability to work rotating weekends and integrate into unit staffing as core staff

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills
• Meditech electronic documentation proficiency
• Wound care, tracheostomy and ostomy management
• Chest tube and drain care
• Alaris IV pump and PCA pump operation
• Basic dialysis exposure and PD Cycler familiarity
• Medication administration with barcode scanning and controlled substance handling
• Safe patient handling with Hoyer lift and use of Broda chairs and Welch Allyn VS Carts
• Infection prevention practices (CVC and Foley monitoring) and fall prevention
