Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, evidence-based labor and delivery nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients
• Perform and document fetal monitoring (AWHONN intermediate level) and respond quickly to changes in maternal or fetal status
• Assist with and/or circulate for cesarean sections and support recovery (scrub tech available for OR support)
• Perform IUPC and FSE placement, cervical exams, IV starts, and routine lab draws with accuracy and compassion
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team including laborists, CNMs, anesthesia, and unit staff to ensure 24-hour coverage and optimal outcomes
• Educate families on labor progress, pain management options (including nitrous oxide and epidural), and postpartum care
• Accurately document care in Meditech and Centricity and maintain required certifications and competencies

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) — current, active license
• 2+ years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience (must-have)
• AWHONN intermediate fetal heart monitoring certification (required)
• NRP, ACLS and BLS certifications (required)
• Experience with IUPC and FSE placement, vaginal deliveries, IV starts, and circulating/recovering cesarean sections
• Travel nursing experience preferred (1+ completed travel contracts preferred)
• Comfortable working in a busy community hospital environment with 1:1–1:2 laboring ratios and occasional PACU duties

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong fetal heart rate interpretation and maternal assessment skills
• Proficiency with Meditech and Centricity documentation systems
• Skilled in OB procedures: cervical exams, IUPC/FSE placement, IV starts, and assisting/circulating cesareans
• Ability to work effectively on night shifts and collaborate with laborist/CNM and anesthesia teams
• Familiarity with tools and techniques such as Jada, fetal pillow, Cook's catheters, and nitrous oxide therapy
• Patient-centered communication, triage skills, and commitment to safety and evidence-based practice
