Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess communication and swallowing function using evidence-based evaluation techniques
- Develop individualized treatment plans that target meaningful functional gains
- Implement therapy sessions across a range of diagnoses, adjusting approaches to each patient’s needs
- Collaborate with physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, and case management to coordinate care
- Document progress thoroughly and communicate updates to families and the care team
- Provide education and training to caregivers and staff to support carryover and safety
- Contribute to discharge planning and follow-up recommendations to maximize outcomes
Qualifications
- Active Speech-Language Pathologist license in New Mexico or eligibility to obtain one (agencies must have NM caregivers account)
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred
- Demonstrated experience with clinical assessments and treatment for dysphagia and neurogenic communication disorders
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain promptly)
- Strong interpersonal and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced rehabilitation setting
Education
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (required) or related advanced degree
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in evaluation and treatment of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies
- Proficient with clinical documentation and electronic health record systems
- Able to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams and communicate clearly with patients and families
- Good clinical reasoning, time management, and patient-centered care approach
