Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients using a thorough nursing process and prioritize care based on clinical changes
- Develop and implement individualized care plans and evaluate outcomes
- Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department and Telemetry when needed
- Communicate timely and accurately with physicians regarding patient status and diagnostic results
- Document assessments, interventions and patient responses clearly and professionally
- Teach patients and families about diagnoses, treatments and follow-up care
- Maintain EMTALA compliance and report suspected child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies
- Respond quickly and accurately to acute changes in patient condition and emergent situations
Qualifications
- Current and valid state Registered Nurse license
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a staff RN in an acute care hospital; ER experience preferred
- Current BLS (AHA or Red Cross), ACLS (AHA or Red Cross) and PALS (AHA or Red Cross)
- Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate or DCI/BVP credential
- NIHSS certification
- Knowledge of EMTALA regulations and experience reporting to appropriate agencies
- Ability to complete required health screenings, immunizations and drug screening
- Active Nursys registration or ability to register
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation
- Direct patient care in emergency and acute care settings
- Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
- Strong documentation and reporting skills
- Patient and family education and communication
- Ability to prioritize and respond to rapid clinical changes
- Familiarity with hospital policies, safety protocols and competency exams
