Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based care for patients in labor and delivery from admission through postpartum stabilization
• Continuously monitor fetal heart tracings and respond quickly to changes in fetal or maternal status
• Administer medications and interventions per protocol and collaborate with obstetric providers to support safe deliveries
• Perform thorough assessments, document care accurately, and communicate changes to the interdisciplinary team
• Participate in emergency responses (e.g., shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, neonatal transition) and assist the team as needed
• Educate patients and families about labor progress, pain management options, and postpartum care
• Contribute to unit quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency via required exams and skills checklists

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid for practice in California (Nursys verification required)
• AWHONN certification or documented training in fetal heart monitoring (AWHONN/FHM)
• Current BLS certification required
• DCI/BVP certification as listed in job requirements
• Completion of employer-required screening and health items: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, TB testing, Varicella, Tdap, drug screen and fit testing
• Successful completion of Prime Basic Pharmacology, Prime Core Competencies, Prime Skills Checklist and Prime Specialty Exam prior to start
• Comfort and experience working night shifts and responding to acute obstetric situations

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor and delivery clinical management and triage
• Fetal heart monitoring interpretation and documentation
• Maternal/fetal assessment and early recognition of complications
• Medication administration in obstetric settings and basic pharmacology knowledge
• Strong communication and teamwork with obstetricians, anesthesia, neonatology and support staff
• Infection control, patient safety practices, and accurate electronic charting
