Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support safe mobility and transfers while encouraging independence
- Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff promptly
- Help with meal setup and feeding support as needed, honoring dietary needs
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care and resident interactions
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to residents
- Follow infection control, safety protocols, and individualized care plans
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, person-centered care
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent
- Active Maryland GNA registration or ability to obtain state certification
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatrics is a plus
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening as required by facility
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-first attitude
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- GNA certification or completion of an approved nursing assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of basic nursing care and geriatric needs
- Familiarity with infection control and safety procedures
- Comfortable assisting with ADLs and safe resident transfers
- Good documentation skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a care team
- Empathy, patience, and strong observational skills
