Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting — with dignity and compassion
- Support safe mobility and transfers using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Observe, record, and report changes in a resident’s condition to nursing staff promptly
- Take and document vital signs, intake/output and other routine clinical measures
- Help with meal setup and feeding assistance while respecting dietary needs and preferences
- Create meaningful interactions — engage residents socially and provide emotional support
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by following infection control and safety procedures
- Collaborate with the care team to ensure continuity and quality of care
Qualifications
- Current GNA / Geriatric Nursing Assistant certification valid in the assignment state
- CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen per facility policy
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB testing as required by the facility
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with a compassionate bedside manner
- Prior experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an approved GNA training program and current certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic nursing assistant duties and elder care best practices
- Proficient in taking and documenting vital signs and basic clinical observations
- Familiarity with infection prevention, hand hygiene, and PPE use
- Ability to follow care plans, report changes, and collaborate with nursing staff
- Good time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
- Respectful, patient-centered communication and cultural sensitivity
