Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs)
• Monitor and record vital signs, reporting any changes promptly to the care team
• Support mobility, transfers, and safe ambulation to promote resident independence
• Assist with meal service and feeding as needed, honoring dietary plans and preferences
• Maintain clear, accurate documentation of resident care and observations
• Communicate respectfully and proactively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary staff
• Follow infection control protocols and contribute to a safe, clean care environment
• Participate in care planning and contribute observations that improve resident outcomes

Qualifications

• Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification in the state of Maryland (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
• Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by facility
• Clear background check and ability to pass facility onboarding requirements
• Compassionate bedside manner, reliability, and strong team collaboration
• Prior experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus

Education

• High school diploma or GED required; completion of an approved GNA training program preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of ADLs and geriatric-specific care needs
• Skillful in taking and documenting vital signs and routine observations
• Familiarity with safe patient handling and transfer techniques
• Strong communication skills with residents, families, and clinical teams
• Basic charting and documentation competency
• Understanding of infection control best practices and resident safety
