Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, patient-centered perioperative nursing care in the cardiovascular operating room
- Prepare the CVOR environment and instrumentation, ensuring sterile technique and equipment readiness
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to anticipate needs during procedures
- Assess and monitor patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively and communicate changes promptly
- Document patient care, surgical counts, and intraoperative events accurately and timely
- Participate in Prime Core Competencies, specialty skills validation, and ongoing professional development
- Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse license (active/clear) — Nursys verification required
- Perioperative/CVOR experience (demonstrated skill in cardiovascular OR preferred)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- Successful completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam as required
- Ability to pass drug screening, fit testing, and required immunizations/health screenings (COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, Influenza, TB testing, Varicella, Tdap)
- Current ACLS and familiarity with sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and intraoperative monitoring
- Strong communication skills, teamwork orientation, and attention to detail in high-acuity settings
Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of cardiovascular surgical procedures and perioperative nursing practices
- Proficiency in sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and OR workflow
- Ability to anticipate surgeon and team needs during complex cases
- Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate perioperative documentation
- Critical thinking, rapid assessment, and effective communication under pressure
- Commitment to patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance
