Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused post-anesthesia care to patients emerging from anesthesia with vigilance and compassion
• Continuously assess and monitor patient vitals, airway status, and pain control
• Administer and titrate medications and IV therapies per protocol and provider orders
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and unit staff to ensure smooth handoffs and safe discharges from PACU
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in the charting system
• Maintain infection control standards and follow facility-specific policies for patient safety
• Participate in required competencies, exams, and skills checklists to maintain clinical currency

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license (must meet state licensing requirements)
• PACU experience or strong post-anesthesia care background preferred
• BLS required; ACLS, PALS, and NRP as indicated by unit requirements
• Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and commit to the per diem assignment schedule
• Willingness to complete VMS onboarding/credentialing and upload required documents
• Compliance with health screening and immunization requirements (COVID-19, MMR/Varicella declination process if applicable, TB, flu, Hep B, Tdap)
• Successful completion of fit test, drug screening, and required competency exams

Education

• Active Registered Nurse license (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia recovery protocols and patient assessment skills
• Airway management and monitoring of emergence from anesthesia
• IV medication administration and titration knowledge
• Familiarity with BLS/ACLS algorithms and emergency response in PACU
• Strong documentation skills and ability to follow unit-specific workflows
• Comfort with 12-hour shift pace and the physical demands of PACU nursing
• Experience with VMS credentialing processes and uploading required documents
