Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry to detect changes in patient condition
- Provide high-quality nursing care on a 37-bed cardiac telemetry unit with safe nurse-to-patient ratios
- Float between Telemetry, Medical-Surgical and Orthopedic units when needed to ensure smooth patient flow
- Administer medications and treatments accurately while following established protocols
- Document patient assessments, interventions and responses clearly and timely in the medical record
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications and discharge plans to support recovery
- Participate in unit-based quality initiatives and maintain compliance with hospital policies and checklists
Qualifications
- Active RN license with Nursys verification (Illinois licensure preferred)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- NIHSS and DCI/BVP certifications required
- Comfortable floating between Telemetry, Medical-Surgical and Orthopedic units
- Current immunizations and health screenings per facility policy (COVID-19, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, Varicella, Tdap, TB testing/PPD or chest x-ray)
- Successful completion of required pre-employment screening (Prime drug screen, color-blind test, physical/health statement)
- Strong clinical assessment, prioritization and communication skills
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in cardiac telemetry monitoring and arrhythmia recognition
- Solid medical-surgical nursing knowledge and orthopedic postop care
- Ability to work effectively with variable patient ratios (1:5, 1:6; occasional 1:7)
- Proficient with documentation, medication administration and infection control practices
- Comfortable using unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists
- Collaborative team player with good critical thinking under pressure
