Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality perioperative nursing care using the nursing process to keep patients safe and comfortable
- Circulate during surgical procedures across orthopedics, general, gynecology, urology, and neurosurgery
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, techs, and the interprofessional team to optimize outcomes
- Perform intraoperative monitoring and respond rapidly to changing patient needs
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the Paragon EMR
- Follow hospital policies, standards of practice, and regulatory guidelines for patient care
- Complete required skills checklist and maintain current certifications to ensure competence in specialty areas
Qualifications
- Active Michigan RN license (must be verifiable via LARA and Nursys) — license must be active at time of submission
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 2+ years of Operating Room experience (required)
- Proven ability to perform circulating duties (required)
- Experience across Orthopedics, General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, and Neurosurgery (required)
- Current skills checklist completed within one year for RN specialties (required document)
- Trauma Level II experience preferred
- Willingness to provide license/incident documentation if there is a license hit
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid command of the nursing process and perioperative nursing principles
- Intraoperative monitoring and patient safety practices
- Surgical nursing workflows and sterile technique
- Experience with Paragon EMR for clinical documentation
- Strong communication and teamwork skills in high-acuity settings
- Ability to follow protocols, manage supplies, and support efficient OR flow
