Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing function using evidence-based tools
- Develop individualized treatment plans that target meaningful goals for each patient
- Implement skilled therapy sessions and adjust approaches based on patient progress
- Collaborate closely with nursing, PT/OT, social work, and families to ensure coordinated care
- Document evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately and on time in the EMR
- Provide caregiver and team education to support carryover of strategies across settings
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and discharge planning to optimize outcomes
Qualifications
- Current Massachusetts SLP license or ability to obtain state licensure promptly
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (see Education section)
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred or eligibility for certification
- Current BLS/CPR (if required by facility) and ability to pass background checks and health screenings
- Comfort working as a float clinician across skilled rehab settings
- Strong clinical reasoning, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (required)
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in adult/geriatric dysphagia assessment and treatment
- Experience with cognitive-communication and speech-language interventions
- Familiarity with common EMR documentation systems and timely charting
- Comfort with assistive and augmentative communication strategies and devices
- Ability to educate caregivers and coordinate interdisciplinary care
- Time management and caseload prioritization in an inpatient/rehab environment
