Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts; Day 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, Night 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM; typically 3x12 shifts per week (36 hours/week), includes weekend coverage (minimum 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule); self-scheduling subject to unit needs, nights often assigned, EOW (every other weekend)

Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and oxygen saturation continuously to detect changes early
- Obtain baseline ECG strips for all monitored patients and record post-event strips per protocol
- Recognize and document dysrhythmias, escalate immediately to the responsible RN following department protocols
- Maintain and troubleshoot monitoring equipment, manage alarms to protocol, and submit work orders when needed
- Update and verify patient data in the electronic charting system (Cerner) to keep records accurate
- Provide clear, accurate shift reports about patient rhythm status and condition at handoff
- Handle communications, answer questions, and assist clinical staff within scope of practice
- Float between campuses as needed and support unit staffing during low census or high demand
Qualifications
- BLS certification (required)
- Acute Care Monitor Tech experience (minimum 2 years preferred as documented)
- Successful completion of a dysrhythmia course and demonstrated rhythm interpretation competency prior to unit clearance
- Comfortable working with GE and Philips monitoring systems
- Experience with Cerner charting preferred
- Willingness to float between Mercy Downtown and Mercy Southwest campuses and respond within 30 minutes if on standby
Education
- BSN not required
- Unit-specific orientation required (12 hours)
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm recognition
- ECG acquisition, strip recording, and post-event documentation
- Alarm management and routine technical troubleshooting
- Strong communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to provide concise and accurate shift reports
- Familiarity with monitor station operations and sending work orders for repairs
