Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert labor and delivery care including active management during birth and immediate postpartum support for mother/baby couplets
• Perform Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) at deliveries and stabilize newborns in the unit’s NICU stabilization area when needed
• Safely titrate drips such as pitocin (and occasional insulin) and manage perioperative circulation when serving as OR circulating nurse
• Conduct advanced fetal monitoring using AWHONN guidelines and the Fetalink EFM system to ensure maternal-fetal safety
• Collaborate with OB, neonatology, anesthesia-on-call, and RT teams to coordinate care for complex or emergent scenarios
• Accurately document care using Cerner electronic charting and communicate clear shift handoffs, including functioning as charge when assigned
• Support quality improvement and perinatal safety initiatives to reduce neonatal complications and enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in the state of practice (able to practice in California for this role)
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring
• Minimum 1 year of LDRP (Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum) experience is required; 3 years preferred
• Comfortable with NRP at delivery — no in-house pediatric coverage, so strong neonatal stabilization skills are essential
• OR circulating experience required if applying with L&D-only background (candidates with only postpartum experience will not be accepted)
• Willingness to float to other Sacramento facilities as needed and to work scheduled on-call/standby shifts

Education

• Registered Nurse (RN) — nursing diploma, ADN, or BSN (BSN not required per job details)
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, AWHONN Advanced EFM

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor and Delivery care and Mother/Baby couplet management
• Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and newborn stabilization techniques
• Advanced fetal monitoring (AWHONN standards) and use of Fetalink EFM
• ACLS and BLS life support protocols
• Titration of infusions including pitocin and occasional insulin
• Electronic charting in Cerner and clear clinical documentation
• Experience circulating in the OR for C-sections and perioperative teamwork
• Familiarity with RT equipment and collaboration (ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, bubble CPAP)
